Performed exterior lead-based paint abatement and recoating of three outlying facilities and a bunker at the USCG Life Saving Station at Sullivan’s Island on Fort Sumter National Monument.  Specific work entailed using a non-toxic chemical paint remover to remove the lead-based paint; collected, sampled, and disposed of the waste as hazardous waste; cleaned and prepped the stripped areas; and repainted with a latex paint.  Proper controls were used to collect the waste as it was generated that prevented contamination of the surrounding soils.  Work included interior restoration of the cupola of the Stations Quarters’ which is listed on the National Historic Register.
Included use of in-house XRF analyzers to provide a Lead-Based Paint inspection report prior to the project and to verify the abated/recoated surfaces lead free at the completion of the project.
