PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Type: New Construction

Project Title: Construct Waste Water Treatment Plant and LAS Field
Location: Evans Field, Fort Stewart Georgia
Customer: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District
Contract Value: $2,741,315
Completion: June 2008

The project consists of 23 acres of land that that now contains collection and aeration lagoons and a slow rate land application spray (LAS) system. The project required land clearing, creation of a borrow pit, installation of fill materials for lagoon construction, installation of pumping and chlorination equipment, installation of piping and installation of a spray field.

The area selected for the WWTP was partially a wooded semi flat area. The land was cleared and grubbed to remove all trees and roots and compacted to develop a stable base for the new plant. The WWTP consisted of three built up lined lagoons. Each lagoon was 8' 6" above grade with a 3:1 sloped berm.

The Land Application System (LAS) includes a wet well with two 30 horse power submersible pumps with capacities of 162 gallons per minute. The LAS field piping system includes 124 separate irrigation sprinkler heads spread out over an 11 acre field topped with 5 feet of compacted sand.

The entire system is automatic and is run by an integrated control system that operates pumps and equipment by input from flow meters, level sensors and totalizers.
